First Look: 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Hyundai has been flexing its environmentally friendly muscles with its blue drive technology for a few years now. It's Elantra Hybrid (not sold in U.S.) and Elantra Blue and Accent blue have been a big hit with the MPG minded. Hyundai now brings a revolutionary Sonata to the market. Most hybrids out there today license Toyotas technology - Hyundai will be the only manufacturer with its own patents and hybrid tech and will not use borrowed Prius gadgets.

It will feature best in class almost everything. It's motor assist goes all the way up to 62 mph. It matches the Prius in aerodynamics without the ugly Prius, Insight shape. The front grill is has a variable opening that will change the acceptable air flow for different speeds. The entire underside of the Sonata is sealed like a Ferrari for better air flow as well.

The Sonata Hybrid should be an awesome competitor with 36 city / 40 highway mpg, 10 year /100,000 miles warranty, and a base price of around $26,500. Not to mention its killer good looks - but as always I will reserve my final opinion on looks until a week after it gets here which it should be here next month sometime. Stay tuned...
