Hyundai in the past 5 years has really made a name for itself in the car industry with itstop performing engine and transmission technologies. The most recent development from the "flying H" manufacturer is a 1.6 Liter Turbo GDi motor which produced 204 HP. That is the same horsepower from a V6 decade a go from a small 4 cylinder. The new Gamma 1.6 T also meets the strictest of emissions standards which is what amazes their competition as they struggle to develop their own tech to keep up. Hyundai also plays a big part in transmission breakthroughs with their proprietary 6 speeds, 8 and 10 speed transmissions, and their new Dual-Clutch Transmission found in the Veloster. The Elantra's transmission has over 200 patents alone! WOW!
Look for the new 1.6T to debut in the Veloster R-spec which should debut in a few months and possibly the Elantra R-spec (less likely but still possible). Most of Hyundai's vehicles are at the very top of the MPG race as well with several of them not being match industry wide or are infringing on hybrid gas mileage without the electric motor. Kind of impressive eh?
